MEET THE TALENTED ARTESANA: DOÑA ROCIO FROM OAXACA

July 10, 2022

Meet Rocio from Oaxaca. nspirational story. She is one of our talented artisan partners in Oaxaca and the creator of our Vida Huipils as well as other unique Oaxaca designs. She lives in San Pedro Amuzgos and this is where she creates her beautifully handcrafted blouses and dresses. Rocio learned the traditions of hand embroidery from her mother who in turn learned from hers. Keeping beautiful traditions alive is one of our missions and we’re thankful for friends like Rocio. Each of her pieces takes several days to create! One of the most important activities here is creating the beautiful embroidered dresses, called huipiles, that most women and adolescents wear every day.The Amuzgo huipil is adorned with figures that represent the cosmological symbols of their ancestors.
